We’re delighted to announce that the 2016 winner of the Fish Scholarship has been decided. Whilst we had a number of strong applicants again this year, we are pleased to say that Rachael Zaltron has been awarded the scholarship.
Rachael, pictured above with her husband and kids, Noah and Holly, is from a South Australian based non-profit organisation called Backpacks for SA Kids. Founded by Rachael herself in 2013, this small charity provides clothes and personal supplies to children placed in emergency foster care, kinship care or domestic violence shelters.
The numbers of children being displaced from their homes in the South Australian community has tripled in the last three years, but Backpacks for SA Kids have been unable to grow with the demand due to limited resources.
“Having the knowledge of how to acquire and source the funds will result in being able to help more children in need and to ensure longevity for our charity,” Rachael said.
She believes the scholarship and her attendance at the FIA Essentials Course will make a real difference to the organisation.
“To develop effective strategies in fundraising I need to acquire the knowledge, information and guidance in how to present myself and our charity goals in the most effective light,” she said.
Fish Community Solutions Director, Bianca Crocker, is thrilled such an enthusiastic individual has been chosen this year.
“Rachael‘s application was full of passion and we hope the Fish Scholarship will be able to further fuel her passion and help educate her about the best way to grow her fundraising.”
From everyone at Team Fish, congratulations, Rachael and Backpacks for SA Kids!
